What Does It Mean?
What does it even mean for a zodiac sign to be masculine or feminine? It‘s less to do with maleness or femaleness and more to do with the spiritual concepts of each time of energy. Masculine and feminine refers to how these signs relate to the world and deal with situations, rather than whether you, yourself, are masculine or feminine. It‘s broken up by the zodiac elements. The water and earth signs are considered female, while the fire and air signs are considered male.
The Masculine Signs
Fire signs: Aries (March 21 – April 19), Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22) and Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)
Air signs: Gemini (May 21 – June 20), Libra (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22) and Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)
Those born under masculine fire and air signs are said to be prone to taking action. They‘re shakers and doers, and are often defined by their relationships with others and how people see them. They tend to be impulsive, acting before they fully think things through, and they‘re constantly on the move.
When these signs see something they dislike in the world, they actively work toward changing it. In fact, they thrive on change, and can be adaptable in an environment that‘s constantly shifting. They‘re direct with people, and always speak their mind. However, they can also have a difficult time getting in touch with their emotions, and don‘t always understand or have the greatest empathy for others. They have a tough time seeing from perspectives other than their own.
The Feminine Signs
Earth signs: Taurus (April 20 – May 20), Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22) and Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)
Water signs: Cancer (June 21 – July 22), Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) and Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20)
Those born under feminine earth and water signs are more focused on what‘s happening on the inside. They‘re inwardly reflective, with a strong inner strength and a powerful understanding of their emotions and feelings. They feel things strongly, reacting with their emotions and thinking about an issue before they can address it properly.
They tend to worry about the consequences of their actions. They tend to be patient, analyzing situations, deliberating and seeing how things pan out before they act. They find that situations often resolve themselves when they just step back and observe. They can also be careful in their interactions with others, as they‘re sensitive and care a great deal about the feelings of other people. They know that things aren‘t up to them, and are flexible in most situations. They live their lives in an orderly way, avoiding chaos wherever possible.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): Survive a Haunted House
Bold Aries may not always be as brave as they claim to be, but the fall season is the perfect time to prove your courage. This season, dare yourself to take on the spookiest haunted house you can find. You pride yourself in your fearlessness, and once you take on something that really scares you, there won‘t be anything left to be frightened of. It helps that everyone else will get to see just how daring you are, too.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): DIY a Costume
Taurus has an eye for fashion and a desire to stand out, so don‘t buy into the same old store-bought costumes as everyone else this year and make something with a personal touch. You‘re usually good with planning and thinking ahead, and if you pace yourself accordingly, you‘ll have something amazing by Oct. 31. Your stylish and refined tastes will help it become your best costume ever.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Attend a Football Game
Being back in school means it‘s Gemini‘s time to shine, and there‘s no better way to kick off the fall season than to attend a local football game with all your friends. You thrive off the bustling energy of a sports game, and with your pals by your side cheering on your favorite team, you‘ll win, regardless of who actually winds up scoring the most points. Best of all, you might even add some new friends to your squad along the way.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Do a Fall Cleanse
Cancer is a sensitive and intuitive sign, so whatever you felt about summer, it‘s time to let it go and bring in a new energy with a bit of a cleanse. Whether you decide to do that through self-care, healthier eating or just inviting in new vibes by burning some candles, you‘re ready for the season to usher in some fresh experiences. Once you do, you‘ll feel purified and ready to take on almost anything.
Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22): Have a Bonfire
Leo desires to be the life of the party, but why wait for the next celebration when you can create your own? Now that the weather is getting chillier, it‘s the perfect time to invite all of your friends to have a bonfire. As you toast s‘mores and tell ghost stories around the fire, everyone will be drawn to your charisma and come to understand that you really are the perfect host.
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Spend a Whole Cozy Day Reading
Virgo would typically enjoy spending most of their days being productive, but even you occasionally need a little time to unwind. As things wind down, give yourself permission to stay at home all day, put on your comfiest clothes and simply read in a cozy, warm place all day. Your brain will still be soaking up knowledge as you give yourself a moment to decompress.
Libra (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Pick Your Own Pumpkin
As a sign that loves harmony and hates taking sides, Libra can be very indecisive. This fall, turn that around with a low-pressure decision at the pumpkin patch. Not only will it give you the chance to get outdoors and commune with the peace of nature, but it‘ll let you actually make a choice without hurting anyone‘s feelings. The next time have to pick between two things, you might have an easier time doing so.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Watch Scary Movies
Scorpio falls smack-dab in the middle of fall, so it only makes sense that the sign delights in all things Halloween. You take delight in the fact that you appear cool, mysterious and even a little bit haunting to others, and your love of scary movies fits right into that public persona. If a film makes your skin crawl and your friends want to cover their eyes in terror, you probably adore it. Don‘t forget to indulge in all of your favorite spooky classics.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): Ride a Hot Air Balloon
Sagittarius has an unstoppable appetite for adventure, and flying the skies in a hot air balloon perfectly fits the bill. When the leaves turn red, orange and yellow, they‘re more gorgeous than ever, and that‘s particularly true when you‘re seeing them from an aerial view. It‘s a breathtaking experience that you‘ll want to relive again and again.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): Bake a Pie
Hard-working Capricorns can tend to be all work and no play, so why not put a little bit of that elbow grease into something fun (and tasty)? As the weather starts cooling down and the autumn produce comes into season, it‘s the perfect time to bake a pie. You have all of the focus, timing and determination it takes to bake the perfect pie—and when it‘s all done you get to eat it, too.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): Go Apple Picking
Aquarius loves being independent and spending time in the great outdoors, so few fall activities could suit them better than apple picking. It allows you to spend some time on your own and be one with the earth while also appreciating its bounty. Your competitive nature will also lead you to pick the biggest, juiciest apples around, which are yours to share with others or hoard to yourself as you see fit.
Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20): Make Art With Fall Leaves
Creative Pisces loves the laidback spirit of fall almost as much as the color palette of autumn leaves. Something about those rich, earthy colors inspires the artist in you, and when you find a particularly striking leaf, chances are that you‘ll pick it up and bring it home. Incorporate these leaves into something artistic that will keep you inspired for the rest of the season.
