Forty percent of all German women and about half of men have cheated at least once. Being cheated on is probably one of the worst things you can do to another person. The pain is great, and in many cases, it means the end of the relationship. Researchers have now discovered in a new study that there is a very specific age at which the temptation to cheat on your partner is greatest. We’ll tell you more.
Being the victim of your partner’s infidelity is a terrible experience. The reasons why it even comes to this are varied and individual. In most cases, however, some clues tell you whether the other person is unfaithful. While researchers from America have already discovered that the neurotransmitters dopamine and vasopressin are responsible for whether a person cheats or not, the British affair portal “illicit encounters” now wanted to know whether there is a certain age at which most people have sex outside of their relationship.
Big birthday? Be careful!
The result: Most people cheat on their partner at the age of 39. Women and people aged 29, 49, or 59 are just as susceptible. The researchers explain this by saying that people tend to behave more extremely when they are about to celebrate a milestone birthday.
Six additional studies carried out by two researchers from the universities of California and New York lend support to this theory. On the one hand, data from online dating platforms was evaluated, and on the other hand, people in the corresponding age groups were surveyed. They stated that shortly before a big birthday, they were particularly concerned with aging and thinking about the meaning of their life. Both considerations lead to a higher risk of giving life an exciting twist by cheating.
Salary is also crucial.
Another study has already found that a person’s salary also plays a role in whether or not they cheat. For the study, sociology professor Christin Munsch from the University of Connecticut examined the results of the National Longitude Survey of Youth and found that the more a person is financially dependent on their partner, the more likely they are to cheat.
