5 Tough Lessons Empaths Fail To Learn

If you’re an empath, you know how hard it is sometimes to stay empowered and healthy. Taking all the pain on your shoulders can at times be overwhelming, and the sad part is people don’t even notice sometimes. It’s ok to take care of the ones you love and people in general, but who’s going to take care of you?

Putting up boundaries might distress others. Do it anyway.

What you fail to realise is the fact that there are people out there who’ll try and use you constantly. There are people who’ll be using your good side in order to help themselves, but won’t bother to give any of it back to the world. What you need to do is set boundaries because if you don’t, things will get ugly.

Not everybody is as good as you are. Not everybody is a savior like you are. So this time, even though they might judge you for not helping them, even though they might forget all those times you were good to them, if you only once refuse to be there for them, even though it might distress them, put up boundaries. It’s the only way to take care of yourself.

You can’t save everyone.

You feel the pain of others as if it was your own. It might be a curse and it might be a gift, you never know how it turns out in life. You feel the need to help everybody and you are all over the place.

You often neglect yourself when there are a lot people suffering around you. The ugly truth is there are too many people out there who are hurting and broken and not enough kind people like you to save them. It would be a shame for you to sacrifice who you are in your heroic feats to save everyone.

Sometimes, you can’t help the one person you really want to help.

Did it ever occur to you that the person you’re constantly trying to save doesn’t really want to be saved? People see things from different perspectives.

Maybe the person you’re desperately trying to save and in whom you’re investing so much time of yours doesn’t really see the things you see. Maybe it’s all ok in his/her opinion. In this case, you can’t really help. You’ll just wear yourself out and instead of one, there will be two people that need to be saved.

If a situation is painful, you must get out.

Even if you haven’t really gotten accustomed to leaving people in need, at times, you don’t have a choice. Sometimes, when you give the best you can and you keep failing, it’s not really up to you.

There is the saying that empaths are God’s visible angels on this earth. While trying to save somebody, there is the possibility to be wounded as well. When the situation gets ugly for you and there is nothing more to do, you must get out.

You must get out for the sake of all the other people that you’ll be able to save if you save yourself now.

Take care of yourself first. You can’t help others when you’re broken.

Somebody once said that you can’t pour from an empty cup—you have to take care of yourself first. If you refuse to take care of yourself, you might end up as those people you’re constantly saving. Who’s going to be kind to them, then?

No matter how much you denied it, you are human as well—a bit of an upgraded human with better specifications than others, but a human nonetheless. If you’re stripped of those specifications, you’d be as ordinary as any other human. But you weren’t born to be ordinary, you were born to stand out.

So, learn once for all to take care of yourself as well.
